Jorge is a visual artist who employs a variety of mediums in his practice. In his work, he produces both handmade designs and digital incarnations, stitching them together into seamless visual hybrids. His process begins by creating a simple line drawing as a complex blueprint for what will result in a frenetically arranged, calculated explosion of color. His lines have varying degrees of weight to them while always maintaining a clean crisp edge. The drawings inevitably find their way through the computer where they are transformed into a vector-based format.
This digitization affords him the flexibility of outputting ideas to various subsequent media. One of the media he frequents is self-adhesive vinyl. Using vinyl, which is normally used for business signage, car wraps and storefront window displays, Jorge is able to re-create an image and return to this vector format once again allowing him to reconstitute familial shapes, big sweeping strokes, patterns and intricate details which define his distinctive visual language. Inspiration for his designs and color references are taken from a myriad of popular culture sources that include fashion, corporate logos, and advertising.
